When Passion Meets Purpose

by tessamarie

Have you ever experienced the euphoria that comes after you’ve finally made a BIG decision? One that you’ve wrestled with, debated, weighed 100 different options, or even worked to put off making the decision as long as possible?

I’ve been in that wrestle for the past 18 months…

Fall of 2017, I found myself at the peak of my career as a wedding photographer. I was booking my “dream clients” and weddings on referrals, years of hard work were paying off! My branding was on point. I’d just opened my dream studio, and yet in my heart, I was in one of the hardest, darkest, and most trying seasons I’ve ever faced.

Very few knew of the battle being waged in my heart. I was in survival, focused on just getting by. I knew the torment within my heart and mind but couldn’t see the pain or frustration I was causing those around me. The further I slid into this dungeon, the darker it became.

For years I’d worked to improve, to fix my flaws, to right my “wrong” choices, to work hard enough to “earn” the life my heart longed for. I had read all the self-help/business/marriage books. Worked with counselors, sought out mentors, joined coaching groups, bought the classes that would bring me the success or relief I was desperate for… yet NOTHING produced the results I longed for. In truth, with each additional failure, it only affirmed that negative nancy in my brain.

Was it even possible for there to be another way?

I came to a place where I had a decision to make. To settle and accept this was my life, (it could be worse), or I could find a way to create the lasting positive change my heart longed for. During this time, I was introduced to the concept of transformation and started working with a transformational coach.

Hidden in the depths of my soul were desires, things that I loved, passions I’d set aside, and that little voice I’d hushed more times than I’d sought it out. I’d settled for what I had rather than believing that I could have, deserved, or was worthy of having more.

Transformation is a process of growth. Rather than work to improve upon or fix what’s wrong with me, my situation, or them (spouse, business, etc.), it’s a commitment to something greater than what I have.

I discovered, living in the past and merely trying to “fix” me or the “problem” was precisely what stood in the way! Fixing and doing more, trying harder, had only brought me to experience more of what wasn’t working. Praying for change or for answers or direction without taking action, left me stuck in despair. My brain was wicked good at showing me the reasons my desires weren’t possible and I wasn’t enough.

The work of transformation is incredibly powerful as it allows me to understand the why and how of my natural instincts, ways of thinking, and emotions and reactions or choices made have brought me to where I am.

When I understood HOW, I realize I’m no longer stuck, and I do have a choice of how I’ll move forward.
When I believe I have a choice, suddenly I become compelled to take action.

In the Fall of 2018, I attended the Master Coaching Academy, a 3 weekend/3month training to become certified as a coach. It was a massive investment, when I committed, I didn’t know HOW it would be possible and yet in my heart, I knew that’s where I needed to be. Over the course of about 6 months, I experienced the power of making clear commitments and stepping out in faith where my heart was calling me to go. Not only did I earn my certification; I also broke through barriers I had been facing in my portrait business as well!

Just like once I made the choice to blend my services, knowledge, and experience, the flood gates opened, and a rush of ideas, inspiration, creativity, and passion broke forth.

I was reminded that in my darkest hours, my heart and prayer was one day for the darkness I faced to have a purpose. Now, as a coach, I guide my clients to discover their own greatness within! I offer them the same tools that have transformed my life and as they move towards their dreams and cultivate lasting change in their lives.

I’m so excited to continue leading clients from behind the camera while also working with others in empowering, conversations that bring lasting change, impact, and intention to their desires and dreams!

I do agree with all the concepts you’ve presented on your post.
They’re really convincing and will certainly work.
Nonetheless, the posts are too short for starters. May
you please extend them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
